- 1 1/2 Cups flour (all-purpose)
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa (unsweetened)
- 1 Cup sugar (All purpose sugar – Granulated Pure Cane Sugar)
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. white vinegar
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 5 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 Cup water
Toppings
- Hershey bars, regular size (approximately 4)
- Marshmallows (large or small size, enough to cover top of cake in a single layer. I used large marshmallows, cutting them in half)
- Graham crackers, crushed (approximately 4 whole crackers)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix first 5 dry ingredients in a greased 8″ square metal baking pan. Make 3 depressions in dry ingredients – two small, one larger. Pour vinegar in one depression, vanilla in the other and the vegetable oil in third larger depression. Pour water over all. Mix well until smooth.
Bake on middle rack of oven for 35 minutes. Check with toothpick to make sure it comes out clean. Remove cake. While cake is still warm, top with Hershey bars, then top with marshmallows and broil until lightly toasted. Stay next to oven and watch – they toast very fast! Once toasted, pull from oven and top with crushed graham crackers. Serve warm or cold! Enjoy!
Cheers!

This morning I tried your vanilla crazy cake. When I mixed the ingredients together via directions, the cake batter was like water. I had carefully measured all the different ingredients before adding them. Since it was so thin, I added more flour to the pan. The cake did raise, but has not been tasted yet. Unable to figure out what end wrong, do you have any ideas? Thanking you in advance!

Hello Dixie, I had made this recipe many times over for years. Same thing happened to me today & I made them as cupcakes so I don’t have any idea how they will turn out. If you look on the other crazy/wacky vanilla recipe – there is a slight difference of 3 TBSP of flour. I am pretty sure that is the difference. How did you cake turn out since you had added more flour?

recipes for the crazy cakes seem great……do you know if you could use box cake instead of making from scratch?
Thanks,

I tried this recipe too. However, I didn't have marshmallows or chocolate bars on hand. All I had was a jar of marshmallow creme and milk chocolate chips so I proceeded to use those instead. The cake warm straight out of the oven when I had put the chips on top. Added the dollops of marshmallow creme. Stick back in oven or use a bakers torch. Then finish it off with the gramcrackers crumbs. Worked great…
