This is one of our favorite recipes, and my kids love it too! I do make my own cream-of soup; for a basic one you can do 3T butter, 3T flour to make the roux and add 1/2c broth or water & 1/2c milk. I added beef better than bullion so I guess I made “cream of beef”.
Rebecca Charlene Sikes
I am allergic to mushrooms. Is there another cream soup like celery or something that I could use?
Mary Neumann
Yes, you can sub with cream of chicken and cream of celery.
Judy
Sounds delicious. I was wondering if I could mix the mushroom soup, gravy packet with beef broth instead of water. Or 1 cup beef broth and 1cup water. I just don’t want it to be too salty. Not sure of how much salt is in onion gravy mix. I shall check and see if there is a low sodium choice. ** This looks so good and I will be making it this weekend. Thanks for sharing. **.

This recipe sounds wonderful and I’m surely going to try it, but wish was a printable version of the recipe. Thank you.
Debra
I’m sorry, I overlooked the link to print the recipe!!! Wake up eyes!

Been making this for decades with round steak. When I want all my family members over I just tell them I am making this!
Terri Stokes
I haven’t made this in years but just put in the crockpot – I used the Cream of Mushroom Soup, Brown Gravy Package (no onions) and the water. My question is can it be cooked in crockpot for 3 hours slow and one hour high? Thank you!
Meagan Grosskreutz
Can you make this without browning the cube steaks? I have a hard time using a stove.
Mary Neumann
Hi Meagan – Yes, you can skip browning, it will still be great!

These cooker recipes are a lifesaver. I am disabled and can only stand for small amounts of time so this
Is perfect.

I am making this today. I could not find onion gravy mix at the store. So I got brown gravy mix instead. Do I still add a can of cream of mushroom soup to the brown gravy mix or just use the brown gravy mix by itself? And will there be enough liquid in there to cover the cube steaks?
Mary Neumann
Hi Connie,
You would still use the mushroom soup – you are just subbing onion gravy with brown gravy mix – follow the recipe the same.
mary p. jones
Best comfort food ever using the only beef that is reasonably priced these days. My recipe also added a small can of mushrooms with brine and some softened onion. Leftovers are even better!
Ashley Young
Can you cook on high for 3 hours
Naomi
How do you keep the steak from sticking to the bottom of the pan?
Cindy
What can you use besides the mushroom soup, no one in family likes mushrooms!
Deanne
Put the soup in the b)ender and grind it up. I get the added flavor but no ‘rubbery ‘ pieces 😉
Morgan Baugh
French onion soup in a can.
Cindy
Sounds great, Thank you!

Can I make the cube the steak the night before and then put it in the crock pot the next morning? Would be a great meal for our busy sports oriented house during the week but dont have time in the morning to do the steaks…
James Szalony
How many people does this feed?
Mary Neumann
4-6 servings. I serve 1 steak per person.
Annie Lancaster
Can it be cooked on high?
Don Goosman
I do this but use chopped onions and a couple stalks very finely chopped celery and cook in same skillet in which I browned the cube steaks to make a roux. I add the flour from leftover dredging and I use Better than Bouillon beef concentrate instead of water. Makes a delicious gravy that’s more like homemade.
Penny
I will try this again because it was tasty and easy, but will cut the water at least in half. I expected a gravy but what I got was a thin liquid.
Cindy
Hi! What would make a good substitution for the mushroom soup?
theresa
make mushroom soup from scratch, but don’t add mushrooms. I’m sure you can use cream of onion. Or, any cream soups for that matter.
Ted Bialy
I use to make this all the time. But now i have a friend whom i am helping get back on her feet. The problem is, she is deadly allergic to onion(s). Do you have a recipe for this with out ANY onion in it?
Please respond to my email addy

Mary Neumann

Can you make this recipe with Pork Cube Steaks?
Deanne
I put mine in a blender and grind it up, flavor is there but no ‘rubber’ pieces 🙂
Leslie
My sister loves cube steak, but since she hadvto have her teeth pulled she’s been unable to eat & enjoy it any mor. I thank you for this quick, easy recipe, but most of all tender. Now my sister can enjoy her cube steak again,& chew it with no problem. Plus it is so Tasty!

I have a suggestion…next time you make this dish…use half beef cube steaks and half cubed pork cutlets! There is something about cooking the two together that is just magic in the flavor department!! Makes that gravey just sublime, too!
Suzanne
Can you just put in pot without frying?
Natasha
Browning it, is what gives it more flavor!
