Mayonnaise Wars

Today I am taking a quick poll on Facebook and on my blog - which mayonnaise is your favorite?

Technically, Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise - but to many people it is...so it's included. I grew up referring to Miracle Whip as mayo, using it like mayo. Here is the reason it's TECHNICALLY not mayo: Miracle Whip Vs. Mayonnaise

After sharing my Tomato Sandwich post yesterday, many people left comments on Facebook stating I should use Duke's Mayo, NOT Hellmann's. I grew up in Michigan and had never heard of Duke's Mayonnaise, it wasn't even available in stores. I only learned about Duke's when I started blogging and following southern food bloggers. When I moved to Georgia a few months ago, the first thing on my list was to purchase some Duke's mayo, to find out what the fuss was all about...and I must say, I prefer Hellmann's. I'm sure those are some fighting words. Ha!

*Update, July 21:  Who knew adding Miracle Whip alongside mayo would start another food fight on Facebook! I love reading all the opinions/comments - some are very strong. Too funny!

A Facebook reader/friend left a funny meme as a comment - "Do You Whip? Or Do You May-Nay?" I had to make one for this post...hilarious!

Which one is your favorite?

Hellman's is my favorite mayo! But then I grew up in the south. And, no, I haven't even heard of Duke's mayo, but I have lived in NYC, Wisconsin, Arizona, and California, so I have tried different brands of mayo. Hellman's is still the best.

Miracle Whip as that's what my Mama used & I do too.

Hellmans!! Miracle Whip has so much sugar, and the idea of using it with meat on a sandwich or in tunafish, makes my stomach turn. Never heard of Duke's until a commercial on TV recently. Must be a southern brand?

Hellman's all the way. My son and husband tease me when I get less then three jars in my pantry. My husband grew up on Miracle Whip. When we got married if I was making something that required mayo I would make it half and half then slowly added more Hellman's and less MW till at our first anniversary I no longer bought MW. His mom would ask for recipes then say they didn't taste the same. I would tell her mayo no MW but she would not buy Hellman's. It makes all the difference in the world.

Dukes all the way!! During the early years of our marriage, my dear husband wanted me to buy a less expensive brand of mayo. It took a while to convince him that there were a few things worth spending the extra money on for the brand name. Dukes mayo, Jif peanut butter, andTide detergent.

Has to be Miracle Whip!! But store brand salad dressings supposedly the same as Miracle Whip are NOT the same. They taste very different. I think whichever you prefer, Miracle Whip Salad Dressing or mayonnaise (any brand),
really just depends mainly upon which you were raised eating!
