Technically, Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise – but to many people it is…so it’s included. I grew up referring to Miracle Whip as mayo, using it like mayo. Here is the reason it’s TECHNICALLY not mayo: Miracle Whip Vs. Mayonnaise
My favorite sandwich growing up was super soft white Wonder bread, a slice of American cheese and both sides of the bread with a layer of Miracle Whip. The BEST cheese sandwich.
After sharing my Tomato Sandwich post yesterday, many people left comments on Facebook stating I should use Duke’s Mayo, NOT Hellmann’s. I grew up in Michigan and never heard of Duke’s Mayonnaise, it wasn’t even available in stores. I only learned about Duke’s when I started blogging and following southern food bloggers. When I moved to Georgia a few months ago, the first thing on my list was to purchase some Duke’s mayo, to find out what the fuss was all about…and I must say, I prefer Hellmann’s. I’m sure those are some fighting words. Ha!
Even though I prefer Hellmann’s over Duke’s, I recently purchased Duke’s Tartar Sauce – HOLY SMOKES IT’S SO DARN GOOD!! The best tartar sauce I’ve ever purchased, better than most homemade!! If you see this in the store, grab a jar, you can thank me later.
Thanks for stopping!
Cheers!

I grew up on Hellmann’s, but when we moved to Florida ten years ago, I discovered Duke’s because of the fact that it contains no sugar. It’s creamier than Hellmann’s. Its my favorite now, except when I make my English muffin appetizer that is a mixture of chopped onion, grated cheddar, chopped black olives and mayo spread on English muffins and baked at 350 for 12-15 minutes. The stiffer Hellman’s holds up better being heated.

Hellman’s is the top notch at our house! loads of lemon flavor. Have tried Dukes at dollar tree. Not as fat free as others but just eat less of it now that im older.

Hellmann’s, AKA Best Foods in my region of the US. Duke’s may be available in some outlets where I live but I have never seen it on the shelve’s. Miracle Whip is disgustingly sweet and has a different texture than mayo to me.

Dukes for sure!

When I was a young man my dad and I used to say those who ate mayonnaise also bayed at the moon. After many decades my opinion has not changed. MW all the way.

I use to use Hellman’s with the pale yellow top, it was SOY free. They no longer make that. Most mayonnaise and salad dressing contain at least one type of soy. The very few that don’t contain soy hove no flavor.

One of the most frequent causes of food poisoning has been “Mayo”.
Recently manufactured Mayo has addressed this issue by increasing its acid content. And yet they fear the taste will be recognized as the classic Miracle whip if they implement all the safety features of MW.
Miracle whip addressed this issue during its conception, the oil in Miracle whip
Will become rancid before it becomes a vector for bacteria, Primarily because of the acetic acid/vinegar content.

I like Miracle Whip on tomato sandwiches, tuna and chicken salad sandwiches. I was brought up in the South. I don’t like Dukes. I find it greasy and yucky tasting. I can substitute Hellman’s anytime.

Hellman’s , original , olive oil and avocado oil are all delicious
I grew up eating that and miracle whip
A tomato sandwich is my favorite food on earth!
My best friend , rest her soul , would bring tomatoes the size of dinner plates from Dad’s garden and I knew when I saw her face, we would be eating a tomato sandwich with one huge thick slice of the most delicious tomatoes I have ever tasted in my whole life !
Still warm from the sun … Memories 💜💓 precious memories !

Kewpie mayo is da bomb! I’m a mayo lover from birth, but it wasn’until 2 yrs ago that I discovered the Best. Mayo. Ever: Japanese Kewpie, rich from egg yolks only and with a delicious vinegar tang unlike anything American or French. It can easily be spooned straight into the pie-hole. At 66, I have Sam the Cooking Guy to thank for this bliss.

Hello my name is Zelda,
I grew on Kraft’s Miracle Whip salad dressing and that’s what I prefer. Hellman’s Mayo if okay. Duke’s mayonnaise is not good.

Tomato sandwich – Miracle Whip what I grew up with also use in potato salads etc. Only thing I use Kraft mayo for is my homemade blue cheese dressing and a turkey sandwich! Grew up in the North(Buffalo) now live in Los Angles and still have never seen Dukes.

DUKES MAYO IS BEST!

I just skimmed over the article.. but there’s another mayo that’s different and worth trying… Kewpie Mayo. It’s the base mayo for a lot of sauces for sushi, like spicy mayo, wasabi mayo. It’s very different and more flavorful imo.

Blue Plate is the best!!!! I will buy nothing but Blue Plate Mayo!!
Chasity
Yes! Blue Plate is the absolute best and I’m from southern Louisiana. I’ve actually never heard of Dukes.

“Hell, man!” 😉 I’m from the South, and grew on on Miracle Whip, too, calling it mayo. But tasted mayonnaise and realized just how sweet Miral Whip is…never went back (unless its specifically for a recipe). Duke’s is too tart (and never heard of it til l moved from Tennessee to Atlanta.
CONCLUSION: I am a 100% Hellmans girl, now and forever.
Joyce
To me there’s no other mayonnaise than Hellman’s
Becca
I am 80 years hlung, when I was going there was only one mayo that my mom bought and that was Blue Plate.. I sent off for some a few months ago; It was ok but didn’t taste the same. I think it is the eggs….who was dark creamy with a little twang. ORG is a close copy.

Can’t stand Miracle Whip or Hellman’s. Grew up in NH and always ate Cains. Can’t get that here in Arkansas but Kraft is the closest thing
